“In the absence of information about Value, of course the system optimises for other things. Why should this surprise anyone?” – [@joshuajames] (https://twitter.com/joshuajames/status/419919754108084224)
How can we improve our decision-making frameworks – with a focus more on the value side of the equation?
Prioritisation is the common area of struggle. Economics, which is the study of scarcity, can help with this. But it goes beyond just deciding what to do or in what order to do it. We often lack adequate means to make sensible trade-off decisions all throughout the systems we are working in.
It’s also not about being “right”. Rather it’s more about being less stupid. Even a small improvement in our understanding of value and urgency can help us focus our precious efforts better, and maybe even discover more quickly the dead ends and losing bets.
