Traveling to Denmark

Depending on which country you come from you might need a visa for your stay. Please look at https://www.nyidanmark.dk/en-GB/Applying/Short%20stay%20visa/Business%20visa and check to see if you do. You can also find more information about Danish visa requirements there.

As a XP 2020 attendee, you may be asked for proof that you are attending a meeting or convention and it may be useful to have a copy of the meeting agenda and/or registration on hand. This may also be helpful when returning to your home country.

If you need a visa and therefore an invitation, please write to Amanda at amajo@itu.dk AFTER you have registered for XP2020. Feel free to contact Amanda if you have other questions regarding visas.

Transportation in Copenhagen

We recommend that you use public transportation in Denmark during your stay. Information about departure times on public transportation can be found at www.journeyplanner.dk, which has an app called Rejseplanen/Journey Planner. It can be downloaded from Google Play and the App Store. Alternatively Google Maps also displays information about public transportation.

Tickets can be bought at ticket vending machines or 7-Eleven kiosks at the train and metro stations. Additionally, you can buy single-trip tickets with the ‘DOT Tickets’ app from Google Play or the App Store.

Alternatively, a City Pass can be bought for the stay, providing use of all public transportation in most of the Copenhagen area. Read more about City Passes here: https://dinoffentligetransport.dk/citypass.

More information about public transportation in Denmark can be found at www.publictransport.dk

Transportation from Copenhagen Airport

From Copenhagen Airport you can take the metro to central Copenhagen. A map of the metrolines can be found here:

IT University of Copenhagen is located by DR Byen metrostation.

Information about other transportation options can be found here: https://info.parkering.cph.dk/en/buses-trains-and-metro

Parking at IT University of Copenhagen

A parking lot is located next to the university. A ticket is required for parking, which can be bought at the ticket machine located in the middle of the parking lot. The price is 20 DKK for each started hour.

June is the warmest month in Copenhagen with temperature ranging from highs of 76°F (24°C )  to lows of 56°F (13°C). Copenhagen is in the Central European Standard Time Zone and uses Daylight Savings Time. The local area code is +45.

Tourist opportunities

During the week of XP2020, multiple sports events will take place in Copenhagen.

Beside sports, Copenhagen has many attractions, and an overview can be found at https://www.visitcopenhagen.com/copenhagen/activities/top-attractions-copenhagen

  • Amager, where ITU and the airport is located, also has many attractions to offer.
  • Amager Fælled is a preserved nature reserve located close to ITU, allowing visitors for a walk in beautiful nature.
  • Amager Strand is a beach located at the other side of Amager. As school holidays don’t start until the end of June there should be space for going for a walk as well as relaxing.
  • At the northern part of Amager, the attraction CopenHill is located. As Denmark is known for its flat landscape, CopenHill is built on a power plant and offers visitors the opportunity to ski year round. For more information and booking, visit https://www.copenhill.dk/en/
