Conference venue

XP 2018 main venue will be the Faculty of Engineering of University of Porto (FEUP), which has been promoting Agile in national industry and academia since 2001, and was also the founder of Agile Portugal.

Social events

On Tuesday, 22 May, a Sunset Wine Party at The Yeatman will welcome you to XP 2018 and Porto to give you a first glimpse over the city, with a panoramic view by the Douro river, at sunset.

On Wednesday, 23 May, the Banquet Dinner will take place at seaside, in Terminal de Leixões, and will give you a different perspective of Porto and its relationship with the sea.

On Thursday, 24 May, the closing social event will be Porto Walk & Talk which will invite you to walk and talk about Agile and Porto, while visiting some of its historical streets and places in downtown, meeting local agilists and their challenges. It will be an unique event!

Arriving in Porto

Porto's international airport, airport Francisco Sá Carneiro, is well served by scheduled international flights and discount air carriers, making it readily and economically accessible. But book early to book cheap!

From the airport

The best way to get from the airport to the city center is using the Metro. The average waiting time is 25 minutes. The ticket is Z4, costing 2,00€, and should be bought in the ticket machines in the station, and validated before entering the train. The trip takes about 35 minutes.

If you prefer, you can use other public transport, or Uber and Cabify.

To the conference

The easiest way to go to FEUP from city center is by Metro. You have to travel in line D (yellow), in the direction of Hospital S.João. The ticket is a Z2, costing 1,20€. The trip takes about 15 minutes. Then you leave at station IPO, and you are 500 meters from the conference site.

To find a suitable route from your hotel, you can check the Metro journey planner.

Getting around

Besides the Metro, to getting around inside Porto and nearby, you also have STCP buses and CP trains. There are two main train stations within the city: S. Bento and Campanhã at your disposal to plan any visit or trip within the city or to the outskirts.

Where to stay

Porto has a wide range of hotels, guest houses, apartments, and hostels, suited for all types of accommodation needs and budget.

As a first visitor to Porto, we suggest to stay downtown, close to Aliados, or nearby Ribeira and Clérigos areas, in the same areas as the official hotel of XP 2018, Hotel Teatro, where invited speakers and some organizers will stay.

If you need help booking accommodations, you can contact Abreu (travel@xp2018.org), the travel agency supporting XP 2018.

What to eat and drink

Porto is very attractive for food and wine lovers. Its rich and diverse gastronomy has several highlights. From the quick snack to a full-blown meal, there are numerous "places of replenishment and pasture", where one can try all the local delicacies, for all budgets, from 4 to two orders of magnitude more.

The top speciality of Porto, worldwide famous, is the "Francesinha", a toast with a steak, sausage, cheese, spicy sauce, and more, much more. There are "Francesinhas" everywhere, several places are known as serving the best "Francesinha" in town. Well, ask two or three locals that you trust, and then decide where to go. Porto is also historically known for the "Tripas à Moda do Porto", and because of that the locals became known as "tripeiros". There are still some small restaurants serving it regularly.

The Port Wine is famous everywhere, from Douro valley, the first demarcated and regulated wine region in the world, since 1756. While in Porto do not forget to try different kinds of Port Wine (Ruby, Tawny, Late Bottled Vintage, Vintage, White, Rose), but do not forget to taste table wines, as many as you want, and for the budget you can afford.

Top sights

Porto is a small city, full of charming places and things to see, from a pristine medieval centre, edgy architecture, high-spirited nightlife and a lot of soul.
