My involvement in technology predates the World Wide Web. I've learned and forgotten more programming languages than I care to count. During those technical Jurassic times, the difficulty of crafting computer solutions in assembly or LISP was mirrored by the difficulty of managing technical teams with TQM or CMM. The emergence of HTML, rapid application development, and Extreme Programming (XP) from the primordial digital soup changed the game. I've traveled the agile path ever since. Beginning with the application of agile principles and practices in software development, I advanced up through technical team lead and executive director for distributed technical teams. Each phase offered an abundance of opportunity to deepen my understanding of a variety agile methodologies and extend their application into new areas of the business. Currently, I am exploring ways to apply appropriate agile methodologies in areas of the organization that are unfamiliar with traditional technical challenges, such as finance and artistic design. Success in this endeavor has depended on: * Solid understanding of a variety of agile methodologies * Exploration skills (hypothesis testing, strategic fast failure, scientific methods) * Systems thinking (system dynamics, modeling, root cause analysis) * Collaboration, mediation, and negotiation * Relentless curiosity * Patience, and lots of it
