Read on to find out more about the Open Space idea………

An Open Space provides a unique and spontaneous way of coming together. With just one theme as the starting point, it is then up to the participants as to which topics are discussed and what the results will be. Of course it is important that such an event is well facilitated.

The purpose of the event will be fully explained at the start of the day and the theme will be clarified. The location, ambience and facilities should all serve to encourage a creative atmosphere.

The fun part of an Open Space is that everyone can offer a suggestion for a topic to be discussed. There is then a vote for the most interesting topics and attendees are divided into groups to discuss those chosen.

The open nature of an Open Space can lead to the assumption that it must automatically end in chaos. On the contrary, with the help of our professional facilitators the day will run effectively, the results will be recorded and sessions going nowhere will be ended quickly or reframed.

Previous experience has shown that people seem to regard Open Space as a unique, enjoyable experience and an especially productive day.

The Open Space takes place on the final day of Devoxx (formerly JavaPolis) the annual European Java conference organized by the Belgian Java User Group (BeJUG). The conference takes place from 16th – 20th November. With over 3200 attendees in 2008, Devoxx is the biggest vendor-independent Java conference in the world.
