Mark Striebeck - Position Statement

Position: My main interest in running for the Agile Alliance board is in the industry program of the Agile Alliance. Agile has grown from an approach to develop software in individual projects to whole program management and is now influencing overall corporate management. There is a lot of interest from big companies in Agile and how it can help them. But the current corporate member program has very little real value to companies – small or large. I think that we can be more creative in our efforts to create programs that offer real benefits to companies. This will in turn attract more companies to join the Agile Alliance. I would also like to explore how the Agile Alliance could benefit from the resources of more partners. This could be a big win for both sides without “selling out” to corporates.
Furthermore, I think that the Agile Alliance should be more pro-active and start and drive more initiatives, instead of only waiting for the community for ideas. I don’t agree with the sentiments of Brian Marick’s recent initiative, but the approach of actively soliciting ideas and engaging in a discussion is very promising.

Bio: I have been in software development since 1990 – for the last 9 years in various management positions. In 2002 I began using agile practices. First with my own team, later I consulted customers and helped them with their Agile adoption. I have become actively engaged in the agile community. I spoke at various Agile conferences – either presenting experience reports or participating in panels. I have been at Google since 2005. I use Agile in all my own projects, and assist other teams in their Agile adoption. To drive the Google-wide adoption of Agile practices I started a successful Agile user group that runs many programs. For example, this group organizes internal and external tech talks, mentors and coaches programs, and is setting up a world-wide agile trainings program – I deliver several of these myself. I am also actively developing Agile and testing tools.
