Agile Alliance board position statement

I’m passionate about software development and strongly believe in agile approaches. I am currently concerned about the way agile is currently viewed by the larger software development community, and would like to see steps taken to strengthen the brand and increase the relevance of the Agile Alliance.

As a board member, I would promote heavy re-marketing of agile and the Agile Alliance, aimed at stemming some of the existing industry backlash. We need to be more available, more prominent, and present a more consolidated front.

I would promote implementing many simple solutions via a more active Agile Alliance portal. One of my primary interests is in having the Alliance host and promote growth of an open source Agile project management tool, such as eXplainPMT or XPlanner. Let’s back our claims with some real software.

I would look to re-emphasize the technical side of agile. This may involve deriving a conference solution that has a good mixture of business and yet still enough technical appeal to continue attracting developers.

I would look to build a consortium around the alliance, looking to provide a consistent but broad mix of consulting capability. Companies looking to engage agile expertise should think “Agile Alliance” as their first idea of where to turn.

I believe I am qualified to help lead the agile community as a member of the board.

My qualifications:
  • 25 years of software development experience
  • author of two books, including Agile Java, and dozens of published articles on agile and other software development concepts.
  • frequent poster to various agile lists
  • owner of the successful consultancy Langr Software Solutions
  • full-time agile/TDD mentor at Sabre
  • 2004, 2007 Agile Developer’s Conference speaker. I’ve also spoken at OOPSLA, SD East, and Cingular Wave conferences, as well as numerous software development user group meetings.
