Certified ScrumMaster Course

In this two-day course, you will apply the Scrum framework to build a new product. You will learn what it feels like to be on a Scrum team—experiencing many of the challenges you’re likely to face—while being coached by someone involved with the application of Scrum at many organizations. This “learning by doing” style of instruction demands your open mind and active participation.

We will apply the experiential activities to discussion of advanced topics such as how to use Scrum in multiple-team organizations, how to measure progress empirically at a macro level, release planning to maximize ROI, and why such a simple framework disrupts organizations to be the best they can be.

The CSM course will cover the following topics (among others) through two days of interactive exercises, lecture, and discussion:

Introduction to Scrum
Scrum Roles and Responsibilities
Agile Requirements Analysis
Estimating and Prioritizing Product Backlogs
Sprint Planning, Execution, Review, and Retrospectives
What does “Done” mean?

Successful completion of a two-day ScrumMaster Certification course, taught by a Certified Scrum Trainer, is a requisite for taking the Certified ScrumMaster exam. Upon completion of the course, attendees are eligible to take the exam, the successful completion of which results in the designation of “Certified ScrumMaster” from the Scrum Alliance.

XP2010 will be held in Trondheim, which is Norway’s third largest municipality. Trondheim is a Norwegian center of education, technical and medical research with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and SINTEF located in the city. NTNU has about 25,000 students. The conference will be at the Rica Nidelven hotel. On the riverbed floor of the hotel you will find the conference section with airy meeting rooms, all with wireless internet access, natural daylight and a view of the Nidelven river. A thousand years ago the Viking King Olav Tryggvason sailed up this river before founding his seat of government in Trondheim. For the fourth year in a row the Rica Nidelven Hotel has been presented with the award for Norway’s best breakfast. Over 400 hotels in Norway compete annually for this award, which is judged by a panel of top chefs from Norway and Twinings.

Learn the Scrum framework for an agile project and the essentials of working as a ScrumMaster or Scrum team member. Through a fun mix of theoretical explanation, problem exploration and practical exercises, this 2–day course will equip attendees for their first Scrum project or enable them to reflect on their projects and become more agile.

Attendees will learn, through doing and questioning, about Scrum concepts and artefacts such as the Product Backlog, release planning, Sprint planning, the Daily Scrum and burndown charts. They will also learn that, despite being a simple framework, it is deceptively simple in that Scrum requires discipline and hard work to be effective.
